My name is Melanie McKay and I’m a photographer living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, but after a short stint in Phoenix, Arizona, I moved to BC on a bit of a whim just over 3 years ago.

One of my very favourite places on the island is Tofino. I’ve gone there every year for my birthday since moving. It’s an amazing place and the perfect excuse to have friends come together from all over the island, and even a few from back home. These photos were taken on one of those birthday trips to Tofino and at another of my favourite beaches on the way home.

I haven’t looked back since moving to the island. I love everything about it!… the lifestyle, climate, beaches, the people I’ve met… it may have been an impulse decision to move here, but it turned out to be one of the best of my life.
