Hey y’all! My name is Lily and I do operations for Camp Brand Goods. I’ve been with Camp since 2018 and have watched it grow from being just myself, Connor, and Les, to becoming a team of 6 full-time members.
Fun fact, I graduated with a degree in Zoology! I specifically studied locomotion and anatomy, basically how and why animals move in a certain way. There is so much knowledge we can apply from animals to our own designs, such as replicating how geckos stick on walls!
During a normal day I am in the office, but for now I am working from home.
I start every morning with a cup of coffee and oatmeal for breakfast. If you saw our other blog post by Ben, he brews his coffee in a tea pot. I tried it and it felt wrong, I’m sorry Ben! Teapots are meant for tea leaves, even though coffee is just bean juice and tea is leaf juice. Controversial take, I know.
During this quarantine, I am mostly working from home. Most of the tasks I do are related to the website, back end inventory, reporting, and graphic design. When I’m not working from home, I’m out doing deliveries for all the local Calgary orders! I put on one of my playlists, such as “Driving but 80s Japanese citypop”, and head on out for a couple hours of cruising around.
After work, I usually unwind by playing some video games. Lately, I’ve been playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Open-world games are my favourite – there’s no hurry, no structure in what tasks to do next, and the freedom to explore the world. The best part about Breath of the Wild is there is literally zero structure – you can go straight to beating the game after completing the tutorial. I’ve gone down a deep rabbit hole of watching ‘speedrun’ videos, where people try to beat the game in 30 minutes or so, while I am 70 hours in and haven’t beat it yet.
Sometimes I switch it up and play some guitar, do some watercolour painting, or help my mom tend to her garden. It's easy to feel equally overwhelmed and stagnant during quarantine, but picking up a new hobby has forced me to disconnect from social media and be present. As Gwen Stefani once said, this s*** is bananas!
